Coroner Mary-Anne Borrowdale concluded 58-year-old Murray Daley killed his partner 61-year-old Ngaire McKenzie, and then committed suicide at her Waipukurau home in 2017.
The report detailed Daley s controlling and manipulative behaviour and said the death s an example of when danger signs are not seen for what they are.
National Network of Family Violence services chief executive Merran Lawler says the Coroner raises public awareness of red flags. ....

No-one is to blame for the death of Ngaire McKenzie other than the man who killed her.
And while a coroner’s report on her death encourages agencies to do more work publicising the “red flags” of domestic coercive control, the National Network of Family Violence says it remains a “fundamental concern” that women and their friends are expected to be alert to the signs rather than insisting the men involved stop their violence or get help.
Murray Daley, described by coroner Mary-Anne Borrowdale as an “intensely needy, self-absorbed, repetitive and badgering” man, formed a relationship with McKenzie in 2014. ....
