Selectmen approve five-year road plan
March 03, 2021The five-year road improvement plan will go forward after some more details were worked out.
The selectmen unanimously approved the plan for 2021-2026 which outlines what roads will receive what types of repairs and in what order. The motion came with the provision that the selectmen reserve the right to make changes to it in the future if deemed necessary.
The plan was the result of extensive work by public works director, Meghan Theriault and the public works team as well as many others. Theriault said she has been working on the plan everyday with information compiled from different sources. ....

Selectmen examine limiting Leavitt Beach parking to residents
March 03, 2021MEREDITH The selectmen are taking a few steps closer to restricting parking at Leavitt Beach to residents only during the peak summer months, aiming for a public hearing in April.
Leavitt Beach was getting a surge of use last summer which prompted selectmen to look into making the park residents only. While Waukewan Beach has to remain open to the public because it receives federal funding, Leavitt can be designated for residents only.
Town manager Phil Warren told the selectmen during Monday s workshop that he spoke with department heads and there was a general sense that the crowds at Leavitt Beach were an anomaly due to the pandemic. While the large amount of people on the beach would usually warrant changes, department heads generally cautioned against making decisions based on an anomalous occurrence that would make a big change from how the town usually does things. Ashland selectmen hear update on power outage
February 17, 2021ASHLAND At their Feb. 15 regular meeting, the Ashland selectmen learned about the Feb. 9 electric outage, discussed the audit and utility billing with the Finance Officer, and held a public hearing on the income from the Library s copier and fax machine.
Public Works Director Craig Moore explained that technicians had been working all that day testing the transformers and related equipment at the town substation behind the Town Garage, trying to determine what caused the town wide power outage on the morning of Feb. 9. The technicians still had more testing to do, and were scheduled to return two days later to complete that job. They will make a formal report on the problems they discovered. But, their preliminary findings were that the outage was caused by two factors. The settings on one of the two transformers were incorrect and ....

I see there being more than two important issues. 1.) The round-about/bypass of Route 202. I am currently undecided on whether the project should proceed. I would listen to public input combined with a review of the current project specifications. 2.) Filling critical vacancies in the Police and Public Works departments. I would use every resource available to select the best candidate. 3.) Road Repairs. Selecting the projects and contractors that will provide the greatest benefit to the town is essential. 4.)
