Hawks Meet Indians For District Title


The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys basketball team travels to West Liberty tonight to face Camanche with the class 2A district nine championship on the line. Mid-Prairie enters the game with a 15-7 overall record, they blasted West Liberty to open the playoffs Thursday 65-35 in Wellman behind 17 points from Jackson Pennington and 12 each from Carter Harmsen and Alex Bean. On the season, Mid-Prairie is led by Harmsen at 18 points and seven rebounds per game. Pennington leads the Hawks with five assists and two steals a night.
Camanche is 16-6 on the season, they cruised through Wilton to open the playoffs last week 67-51 led by a 26 points 12 rebound performance from Zach Erwin. Jordan Lawrence added 12 points and Mike Delzell 11. On the season, the Indians are led by Erwin and Lawrence at 15 points per game each. Zayne Feller is best on the glass at seven rebounds. Golden Hawks Blast Comets in District Semis


The first step to get to Wells Fargo Arena was checked off the list for the Mid-Prairie boys’ basketball team last night when they opened up the postseason with a 65-35 win over West Liberty in a class 2A district semifinal. 
As heard on KCII, it was slow going for the Golden Hawks in the first six minutes with the Comets taking advantage of offensive rebounds and held a 9-5 lead. A pair of triples by Jackson Pennington and Alex Bean to close the quarter is all the Hawks needed for the floodgates to open. A three point barrage ensued in the second quarter with Mid-Prairie holding a 29-18 advantage at half and a 21-4 third quickly put the game to bed. Four different Golden Hawks made a shot from long range led by Pennington going four of seven and finishing with a game-high 17 points. Golden Hawks Close Regular Season Running Past Regals


Back in December the Mid-Prairie boys’ basketball team exorcised some demons by downing Iowa City Regina for the first time in 23 tries. On Saturday, the Golden Hawks started up a win streak of their own against the Regals by managing the regular season sweep with a 59-36 win on the road.
As heard on KCII, Aidan Rath was on a mission for the Hawks by scoring the game’s first six points and had 10 at the break in just nine minutes of play. Mid-Prairie held a slight 9-6 lead after one and 23-17 at intermission. The offense picked up in the third with a 22-10 quarter that led to the 23-point victory. Rath finished with a team-high 16 points and 10 rebounds. Carter Harmsen scored 11 of his 15 points in the second half. Ashton Cook led the Regals (7-11) with 17 points. Hawks Cruise By Comets


The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys basketball team collected it’s 12th victory of the season in convincing fashion Monday, beating West Liberty for the second time in 48 hours 59-25. The Hawks would not trail on the night, opening the game on a 12-0 run, they led 17-4 after one quarter. They would use a 19-4 second quarter run to stretch the lead to 36-10 by halftime. In the second half, the lead would grow to as many as 34 in favor of the Hawks. Mid-Prairie was dominant on both sides of the ball, putting West Liberty through a six minute first half scoring drought, an 11 minute drought from the floor and a 22 minute drought from two point range. Mid-Prairie outrebounded the Comets by 18 and forced 15 turnovers.
