Shop owners in Athens had mixed feelings of optimism and pessimism towards the reopening of their business, as quarantine continues, and the number of infections remains high.
The image was familiar as they once reopened for business for a few weeks before the Christmas and New Year holidays in 2020. In the spring of 2020, they remained shut for several weeks during the first lockdown. ....

The government today announced a sorely needed 300mn euro boost for the Greece’s devastated restaurant industry amidst a huge wave of unemployment in the sector.
Perhaps no sector has been harder hit harder by the year-long COVID-19 epidemic in Greece than restaurants, which have been shut down by the government for the last five months upon the advice of the experts on the National Committee for COVID-19 due to heightened public health (transmission) risks.
The sole type of legal operation of restaurants and other food establishments is home delivery and take-away from the premises.
Though the announcement brought a sigh of relief to struggling entrepreneurs, the sector is hardly out of the woods as it is still uncertain when it will re-open. ....

GTP Headlines Greece Seeking Ways to Support F&B Services Providers


Hard hit by the coronavirus pandemic,
Greek restauranteurs are calling on the government to provide liquidity and support in order for businesses to remain above water until they are allowed to re-open.
In a meeting with Greek Finance Minister
Christos Staikouras, the president of the Panhellenic Federation of Restaurants and Related Professions (POESE),
George Kavvathas requested besides liquidity injections
a reduction of VAT to 6 percent and 
flexibility with regard to pandemic-related debts, allowing sector professionals to enter the 120-instalment program.
Kavvathas also called for
e support for enterprises such as nightclubs, bars, concert/event halls and catering services that have suffered a massive blow remaining closed for nearly a year.  ....
