SUMUL raises procurement prices; to benefit 2.5 lac dairy farmers
Active in Surat and Tapi districts, Sumul procures 17.5 lac ltr of milk daily
Gujarat based Sumul Dairy has decided to increase the cow & buffalo milk procurement prices by Rs 20 per kg fat from 1st May onwards, the day which is also celebrated as Gujarat’s foundation day.
The decision was taken in the board meeting held on Monday at SUMUL’s headquarter in Surat. The meeting was chaired by its Chairman Mansinhbhai Patel, who shared the news through social media.
“In a board meeting, it has been decided to increase the cow & buffalo milk procurement price from the cattle rearers of Surat and Tapi districts by Rs 20 per kg fat”. ....

SUMUL to venture into vegetables on the lines of dairy

Gujarat based Surat District Co-operative Milk Producers’ Union (Sumul) is planning to sell vegetables through its outlets spread across Surat and Tapi districts of Gujarat. The plan was revealed by its Chairman Mansinhbhai Patel in a telephonic conversation with Indian Cooperative correspondent on the phone.
Sumul is one of the milk unions associated with Gujarat Milk Marketing Cooperative Federation (GCMMF) which sells its products under the brand name of Amul.
“We are making a plan to collect the raw vegetables directly from the farmers and will sell them through our selling centers spread across Surat and Tapi districts of Gujarat. It will not only give the farmers good returns but also help in fulfilling our Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s dream of doubling farmers’ income”, Patel said. ....

Webinar: Modi exhorts FPOs to help farmers enter global market

The Prime Minister, Narendra Modi addressed a webinar on effective implementation of Budget provisions regarding Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare through video conference, in which some of the cooperative leaders including IFFCO Chairman and Nafed Chairman were invited.
Dileep Sanghani, NCUI President also attended the webinar, though NCUI- being a training organization was not in the list of invitees. The invite was restricted to co-op marketing federations, sources say.
In a comprehensive talk on the subject, the Prime Minister covered every aspect of agrarian economy which included FPOs, cooperatives, fisheries, dairy, SeaWeed, Beeswax and most of all processing of agricultural produce of small and marginal farmers and making them exportable. ....

New Delhi, Mar 1 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said empowerment of small farmers is central to the Government s vision.
Addressing a webinar on effective implementation of Budget provisions regarding Agriculture and Farmers Welfare through video conference, Mr Modi outlined the vision of the government with small farmers in the center. He added that empowerment of these small farmers will greatly help in ridding Indian agriculture from many problems.
He highlighted some of the provisions for Agriculture in this year s Union Budget like increasing the Agriculture Credit target to Rs 16,50,000 crore with priority to animal husbandry, dairy and fisheries sector, increasing rural infrastructure fund to Rs 40,000 crore, doubling the allocation for micro irrigation, expanding the scope of Operation Green Scheme to 22 perishable products and linking 1000 more mandis with e-NAM. ....

‘Important to have good storage facilities near villages, and better logistics to carry farm produce to processing units’

India needs to focus on revolutions in post-harvesting technology and food processing as well as value addition as the country faces a glut in food production, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Monday.
Participating in a webinar on effective implementation of budgetary allocation for agriculture and allied sectors, the Prime Minister said such efforts should have been made at least two to three decades ago and now that it has not had been done earlier, there is a need to double up to cover lost ground as well as to take India forward in the global food market. ....
