Blaming the Sindh government’s poor governance for the worsening Covid-19 situation in Karachi and Hyderabad, the federal government on Tuesday asked the provincial leadership to improve its response to coronavirus and ramp up vaccination as the fourth wave of the pandemic intensifies and infections continue to spread.

ISLAMABAD: Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry on Tuesday said the government would discuss electoral reforms with the opposition members of parliament (MPs) including Shehbaz Sharif, and not the fugitives like Nawaz Sharif and Altaf Hussain.
“Many leaders of both opposition parties, PMLN and PPP, are part of the parliamentary system and want its improvement, while Nawaz Sharif, Maryam Safdar, Fazlur Rehman and others, who are not part of the system, want to disrupt it for their personal benefits,” the minister said while briefing media persons about the decisions of cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Imran Khan. ....

Electronic machines to make electoral process fair: minister - Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: Minister for Science and Technology Shibli Faraz on Tuesday said his ministry had developed the electronic voting machine, which will contribute to making the electoral process fair and transparent.
“The electronic voting machine has been developed according to requirements of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP). Today we have briefed the Cabinet about this new device and its benefits,” Minister for Science and Technology Shibli Faraz said while talking to media on Tuesday.
“The use of technology in elections will be helpful for the losing candidate to recognise the results. The machine has no internet and no operating system. Due to the Internet and software vulnerabilities, it is free from external interference. The machine will soon be shown to the cabinet, opposition parties, parliament and the Election Commission,” ....
