$240,000 supports new look for Swansea foreshore
Key pieces of rehabilitation work boosted by $240,000 in NSW Government grants have started improving waterways and ecosystems along the Swansea foreshore.
Minister for Local Government Shelley Hancock inspected the foreshore and wetland rehabilitation site at Swansea today, after $240,000 was awarded to Lake Macquarie City Council to carry out the work as part of the NSW Government’s Coastal and Estuary Grants Program.
“I’m pleased with the works completed so far at Swansea foreshore and to see, first-hand, the 80-metre long protective rock wall, revegetation and saltmarsh rehabilitation,” Mrs Hancock said.
“Through the Coastal and Estuary Program, the NSW Government is funding half of this exciting Lake Macquarie City Council project. ....

More Funding For Stockton Beach!

A big boost for Stockton Beach this week, with the NSW Government announcing more than $768,000 in funding.
The grants have been awarded to Newcastle Council as part of the Government’s 2020-2021 Coastal and Estuary Grants Program.
It’ll go towards a feasibility study into sand dredging from the South Arm of the Hunter River estuary, which could potentially renourish Stockton’s deeply eroded coastline.
The grants also include emergency funding under the Government’s Significant Open Hazard Locations program, to address last year’s erosion events.

Dealing with coastal erosion issues at Stockton Beach

The NSW Government has provided more than $768,000 to the City of Newcastle Council under the 2020-2021 Coastal and Estuary Grants Program.
“This funding will enable Council to investigate the suitability and feasibility of delivering sand dredged from the South Arm of the Hunter River estuary to potentially deliver mass sand nourishment at Stockton Beach,” Minister for Local Government,
Shelley Hancock, said.
The approved grants also include emergency funding under the Government’s Significant Open Hazard Locations stream following erosion events that impacted Stockton Beach last year.

More than $2.3 million for councils to manage their coastlines
The NSW Government today announced more than $2.3 million in coastal funding has been awarded to councils through the 2020-2021 Coastal and Estuary Grants Program’s planning stream which will provide assistance to councils in managing their coastlines.
Minister for Local Government Shelley Hancock congratulated the councils of Ballina Shire, Bellingen Shire, Byron Shire, City of Canterbury-Bankstown, Fairfield City, Kiama Municipal, Shoalhaven City and Wollongong City in partnership with Shellharbour City on their successful applications for funding.
“This funding will ensure councils are supported as they manage the health of our unique coasts and estuaries while improving the resilience of coastal communities through well-planned action,” Mrs Hancock said. ....
