THE Department of Tourism (DOT) in Central Visayas has issued a stern warning and a fine of P10,000 on Plantation Bay Resort and Spa over the response of its former resident shareholder to the online post of a mother who complained about the treatment she and her son with special needs received at the resort.
In a letter dated December 30, 2020 and addressed to Plantation Bay general manager Cherry Allego, DOT Regional Director Shahlimar Tamano said they are tasked to implement the penalties imposed by the Office of Tourism Standards and Regulation, and as approved by the Office of Tourism Regulation Coordination and Resource Generation against the respondent, which is the resort. ....

The Cebu-based resort confirmed the resignation of resident shareholder Manny Gonzalez effective Tuesday.
To protect our staff from further indignities, and with sincere apologies for my error of judgment which led to so much trouble to many innocent people, I have decided to resign from the position of Resident Shareholder, Gonzalez wrote in a letter to the resort s management, which the latter publicized in a statement. ....

Plantation Bay Resort and Spa in Cebu on Tuesday announced the resignation of its resident shareholder, who responded negatively to a review by a parent of a child with special needs.
In a statement, Plantation Bay said its resident shareholder, Manny Gonzalez, resigned from his post effective, December 15, 2020.
Last week, the resort drew flak on social media after Gonzalez, using the account of general manager Efren Belarmino, responded to Mai Pages’ Trip Advisor review and accused her of most likely deliberately lying since uncontrolled shouting is not a symptom of autism. He went as far as to question the child s diagnosis. ....

The word autism means a developmental disability significantly affecting verbal and non-verbal communication and social interaction. Years ago, most of us are not so aware of this kind of disorder that affects mostly children because, correct me if I m wrong, they were kept at home.
