Wellsville Legion plans 'long overdue' restoration of Johnson Cemetery

WELLSVILLE One of Wellsville’s oldest cemeteries is set for a “long overdue” restoration in 2021.
The American Legion Riders Post 702 plans to tackle some major improvements to Johnson Cemetery later this year. Johnson Cemetery, which sits next to Jones Memorial Hospital, entered the spotlight in recent months with JMH planning to construct a new parking area a short distance from the cemetery.
The route will navigate around the historic cemetery, which has fallen into disrepair over the years.
“American Legion Riders Post 702 is very interested in bringing back some dignity to the cemetery. It’s in a bad state of affairs right now,” said Town Supervisor Shad Alsworth. “They have an awful lot of volunteers willing to donate materials, time and energy to go down there and help improve the cemetery.” ....

WELLSVILLE The Town of Wellsville is moving forward with plans for its new home on West Hanover Street.
The town will be accepting bids to auger 55 holes for the new town building. A representative from the town’s engineering firm, Clark Patterson Lee, attended the December meeting of the town council and presented an update on the process.
The load bearing soil depths range from 8-14 feet, with 17 holes at 10 feet or deeper. The town’s engineer, Tom Swift, said at some point soon the town will need to finalize the layout of the town office area as design plans for the gas and electric systems can’t go any further until it is in place. ....
