Agencies to prosecute offenders as fire destroys 225 shops in Lagos

Emergency agencies in Lagos State may henceforth prosecute residents and shop owners for fire incidents resulting from a breach of the safety rules, City Round has learnt.
At least 225 shops, two warehouses and three residential buildings were destroyed by fire in different parts of Lagos State within four days, spanning Monday to Thursday.
The affected places were Agboju Market in FESTAC, Alade Market in Shomolu, Omididun off Ricca Street, Lagos Island and Iga Idunganran, also on the island.
At the Agboju market fire which occurred around 2.30am on Monday, 96 lock-up and makeshift shops were destroyed; 94 shops razed in Alade Market on Tuesday while four apartments and a shop were completely burnt on Omididun off Ricca Street the same day. ....

NEMA begins recertification of emergency response officers

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has begun the recertification of emergency response officers in Lagos State to reduce casualty and loss of lives during emergencies.
Mr Ibrahim Farinloye, Acting Zonal Coordinator, South West Zonal Office, NEMA, made this known on Thursday at a two-day Basic First Aid/Recertification Course organised for emergency responders in Lagos.
Newsmen report that the participants included officers of NEMA, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) and Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA).
Others are: LASEMA Response Unit, Federal Fire Service and Police Disaster Management Unit.
Farinloye said the training, which was being organised in collaboration with the Nigeria Red Cross Society, was to boost the capacity of emergency response officers in the state, especially with the upsurge in COVID-19. ....

Again, tanker explodes in Lagos | Premium Times Nigeria

A tanker conveying Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) on Thursday morning rolled over and burst into flames on the Oshodi-Apapa Expressway, Lagos causing panic among commuters plying the route.
The Acting Zonal Coordinator, South-West Zonal Office, NEMA, Ibrahim Farinloye, confirmed the development to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.
Mr Farinloye said the incident occurred about 9.15 a.m., at Toyota Bus Stop, close to the Oshodi-Airport Road junction and directly in front of the Lagos State Fire Service Station located in the area.
He said the tanker was fully loaded with 44,000 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) when the incident occurred. ....

Lagos Tanker Explosion: Apapa-Oshodi expressway structures 'badly affected' – NEMA

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has said the structures at the Oshodi-Apapa Expressway, where a tanker explosion occurred on Thursday morning, has been “badly affected.”
PREMIUM TIMES earlier reported how a tanker conveying 44,000 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) crashed with another trailer and discharged its contents, which led to a fire outbreak.
The incident happened at 9:15 a.m. on the Oshodi-Apapa Expressway. It occurred opposite the Lagos State Fire Service Station located in the area, which led to a prompt intervention of the fire service personnel.
Giving an update on the tanker explosion, Ibrahim Farinloye, the Acting Zonal Coordinator, South-West Zonal Office said the road has been strongly affected. ....
