SGA reflects on how to improve its operations

SGA passed funding for this semester’s Sex Week, which will be held at the end of April.
The Student Government Association (SGA) reflected on the past year and passed two funding bills at its weekly meeting on Tuesday, April 6.
When discussing this year’s internal reforms, Executive Secretary Breanna Soldatelli expressed her belief that SGA successfully shifted its work to meet COVID-19 guidelines. However, she argued that there were some issues with senator attendance, which should be enforced more strictly.
“Some people end up doing way more than is their fair share of work. [We need to] make sure that there is a system of accountability in place for each SGA member in addition to SGA as a whole,” she said. ....

SGA president calls for student government representation on renaming committee

A Health, Safety and Sustainability Committee bill asked the University to mandate the usage of a digital contact tracing service.
The Student Government Association (SGA) discussed the Committee to Establish Principles on Naming’s ongoing efforts to rename Hopkins buildings, scholarships and programs tied to racism or inequality at its weekly meeting on Feb. 16.
The 22-member committee includes administrators, faculty, graduate students and one undergraduate student.
Lawrence Jackson, Bloomberg Distinguished Professor of English and History and a co-chair of the committee, stated that the committee’s work gives the University an opportunity to be a national leader on the issue. ....
