MAN Expects Sales Boost from Chinese Emissions Regs

Engine manufacturer MAN Energy Solutions said it expects to see increased sales from the imminent China’s Stage II commonly known as the C2-emission standard (GB15097 regulation) due to enter into force in July 2021.
The new legislation will primarily apply to inland waterways, coastal areas and most rivers, covering domestic bulk carriers, feeder containers, oil tankers, passenger RoRos and government vessels, and MAN said it expects the introduction of the new regulations will spur sales of its small-bore, four-stroke MAN L21/31 engine type. ....

MAN Energy launches industry consortium to develop medium-speed, ammonia-fueled engine
MAN Energy Solutions has begun the ‘AmmoniaMot’ project. Initiated by MAN with partners from industry and research institutes, it aims to define the steps necessary to produce a dual-fuel, medium-speed engine capable of running on diesel-fuel and ammonia.
Supported by the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology (BMWi), and due to run for three years from December 2020, project partners include the University of Munich, Neptun Ship Design, WTZ and Woodward L’Orange.
MAN Energy Solutions views this project as closely aligned with its own strategy for developing sustainable technologies and welcomes the opportunity to work with external partners. Tanker Operator MAN 23/30H GenSet lands order for first Mk3 unit

STX Engine set to build first Mk3 variants of MAN workhorse.
STX Engine has signed a contract with Daehan shipbuilding for 3 × MAN 6L23/30H Mk3 GenSets for 1+1 vessels, which marks the first sale of the engine’s Mk3 version. The engines are bound for an Aframax crude tanker ordered by Atlas Maritime, the Greek international shipping company, and will achieve Tier III emission levels with the aid of SCR. They are provisionally scheduled for delivery in August 2021.
