CSOs Call for Adequate Security as Masari Reopens Boarding Schools

Following the reopening of four boarding schools in Katsina State, civil society organizations (CSOs) in the state have called for the immediate provision of adequate security to schools across the state for efficient and effective learning.
The state Chairman of CSOs, Mr. Abdulrrahaman Abdullahi, disclosed this while reacting to the reopening of the four boarding schools hitherto closed by the state government after the abduction of 344 students of Government Science Secondary School, Kankara.
The Commissioner for Education, Prof. Badamasi Lawal, had on Sunday announced the reopening of the four boarding schools after meeting with zonal inspectors of education and permanent secretaries in the education sector. ....

Banditry: Katsina govt'll open Day schools on Monday

Katsina State Government has announced reopening of day schools only, on Monday, January 25, 2021 and that affects both private and public schools across the state.
A Circular quoting the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Musa Abdu Dankama and made available to newsmen in Katsina, further stated that each school will only be allowed to resume their academic activities subject to the compulsory formation of School Security Committee comprising of eight members with members drawn from security personnel, traditional, religious leaders and other stakeholders.
He said: “The resumption of Primary and Day Secondary Schools is on 25th January 2021 and the resumption for each School activities is subject to the compulsory formation of School Security Committee which shall comprise: Parent Teachers Association Chairman (PTA), School-Based Management Committee (SBMC) Chairman with the School Management expected to provide the Secretary to the Committee.” ....

School resumption: Katsina fix Jan 25th, gives condition for reopening

Katsina State government, on Tuesday, fixed January 25 for reopening of primary and secondary (day) schools in the state.
This was also as it gives the condition that each of the schools must form and inaugurate a security committee to assess the security situation in such area before they are reopened.
The Commissioner of Education, Associate Professor Badamasi Charanchi announced the guidelines in a statement made available by his Permanent Secretary, Musa Abdu Dankama.

EEDF embarks on psychosocial support to adolescents

In an effort to reduce the psychosocial impact of Covid-19, violence and other emergencies that affect adolescents, Education Expertise Development Foundation (EEDF), has embarked on Psychosocial Support (PSS) programme.

The programme has been implemented in 16 Community Day Secondary Schools (CDSSs) of the STAR School in CDSS project impact schools from Mzimba South, Lilongwe Rural East, Mangochi and Chikwawa district. And it is projected at impacting over 20, 000 adolescents.
Speaking in a telephone interview on Thursday, EEDF deputy director Jacqueline Chazema said the programme seeks to respond to psychosocial problems faced by adolescents and interfere with their education and well-being. ....
