It was good for the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas to shift the release of Financial Stability Report (FSR) from annual to semestral beginning second semester of 2020. There is a dearth of reliable and timely information that the Filipino public could trust, and this report from the BSP could not have come at a better time than this.
Speaking for the Financial Stability Council, the FSR highlights the now ubiquitous problem of corporate and individual distress. The FSR documents that as of Q2 2020, “corporate results were actually diverse, ranging from lower profits to outright losses.”
Dented financials are critical in debt servicing and corporate viability. If many of our companies have bleeding bottomlines, economic recovery would remain elusive. Economic recovery could equally be slow burn. ....

The Bank of Ghana (BoG) has disclosed that GH¢571.8bn (USD99.67bn) Mobile Money (MoMo) transactions were recorded in 2020.
In an era where the use of technology to minimize contact while surviving in the global covid-19 pandemic has become paramount, Ghanaians now more than ever embraced the use of mobile money for various transactions.
As the service continues to grow, BoG has confirmed that there are over 17 million active mobile money accounts in the country and still counting.
Speaking during a joint AFW2/MCM virtual regional workshop programme on Tuesday, April 6, 2021, Mrs. Elsie Addo Awadzi who is Second Deputy Governor at the BoG has provided an update on transactions recorded in the past year. ....

Regulatory Sandbox regulation approved

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. The Financial Regulatory Commission of Mongolia has developed a draft regulation for the ‘Regulatory Sandbox’ mechanism with a view to establish legislative framework in the country to keep up with the fast pace of technological innovation and support introduction of new technology-based products, services and business models of financial service markets into the domestic market.
The Financial Stability Council, responsible for safeguarding the financial stability of the markets by determining any kind of financial risks and managing them within the current laws and regulations, has conducted discussions on the draft regulation at its regular meeting.
On March 01, the Financial Stability Council, consisting of heads of the Bank of Mongolia, Ministry of Finance, Financial Regulatory Commission and Deposit Insurance Corporation, approved the ‘Regulation for Regulatory Sandbox’. ....
