The Health Ministry will be revamping quarantine facilities with additional CCTV cameras and strengthening its protocols to protect against human error to an even more stringent degree than before.
Revealing this in a press conference, Permanent Secretary Dr James Fong said given this outbreak’s index case was at the border, they will be working on the revamp.
“Before we even consider reopening international passenger travel to Fiji, we need a much firmer grasp on this outbreak.”
“I saw that yesterday Australia suspended the return of its residents and citizens from India. I want to be clear with everyone: Fiji suspended all international passenger flights from all countries on the 22nd of April, nine days ago.” ....

Health Permanent Secretary Dr James Fong says the mere existence of a case of community transmission means there are high-risk locations in Fiji that we do not know about and no one is safe.
Speaking in a press conference, Dr Fong said  the list of areas of interest they publish are the locations they know about and that is not an exhaustive list.
“So please do not read that list and think simply because you have not been to any of those places, you have not been exposed to coronavirus,” he said.
“You still could have been, if you have been anywhere outside of your home, there is a chance you could have contracted the virus. ....

Four new cases of Covid-19 have been confirmed in Fiji, one of them sending health authorities on a massive manhunt.
The Central Division - including the capital, Suva - is in lockdown effective today for the next 14 days.
A restricted movement order issued on the main island of Viti Levu on Saturday ended this morning.
Authorities have also since separated Nadi and Lautoka which have been in lockdown since a week ago when it was discovered a soldier had contracted the virus and infected a hotel maid in a breach of protocol. ....

Four new community cases of COVID-19 have been announced by the Ministry of Health and Medical Services today.
Out of the four cases, three attended the funeral in Lautoka while there is one case from Makoi, Nasinu.
Ministry Permanent Secretary Dr James Fong said it is not certain how the Makoi person contracted the virus.
Due to this, Lami, Suva and Nausori go into lock down from 4am tomorrow.
The lock down containment zones are in three sections. ....
