Budget brings welcome changes to super threshold and extra support for AAP but doubts remain about ABC funding
The abolition of the superannuation threshold announced in last night’s Federal Budget will make a substantial difference to low-paid workers in the entertainment and arts industries.
The threshold of $450 in earnings before employers must make superannuation contributions has meant that tens of thousands of workers in casual and part-time jobs at venues and cinemas have little in retirement savings.
The Media, Entertainment & Arts Alliance says scrapping the threshold will allow them to begin building a nest egg for when they finish work. ....

On World Press Freedom Day 2021 today, the Media, Entertainment & Arts Alliance is concerned increased harassment, abuse and violence directed towards journalists during the Covid-19 pandemic could become the new normal.
Releasing its 2021 report into the state of press freedom in Australia,
Unsafe at Work – Assaults on Journalists, the union says attacks on journalists increased both globally and here throughout 2020.
MEAA Chief Executive Paul Murphy said, “Journalists know that their work will always be under scrutiny and expect it to be criticised, but they are entitled to a safe workplace like all other workers. ....
