Indian Coast Guard carry out relief, rescue operations in floods-hit states

New Delhi [india], July 26 (ANI): Indian Coast Guard (ICG) has deployed its resources to aid the civil authorities in relief and rescue operations in flood-hit areas of Maharashtra, Goa and Karnataka and have despatched Disaster Relief Teams (DRT) with inflatable Gemini boat and life-saving gear to the affected areas, the Ministry of Defence said on Sunday.
As per an official release, the DRTs reached areas rendered unapproachable due to water inundation especially in the Chiplun and Mahad districts of Maharashtra and Umlijoog, Khargejoog, Bodjug Island and Kinnar village in Uttar Kannada district of Karnataka. "The teams evacuated the stranded people and provided relief material," the Ministry said.

The three Services have joined hands with the civil administration and National as well as the State Disaster Management Authorities in relief and rescue operations in flood-affected areas of Maharashtra, Karnataka and Goa. Working in close coordination with the administrations of worst-hit Ratnagiri, Kolhapur and Sanglidistricts of Maharashtra, the Indian Army has deployed Task Forces, comprising Infantry, Engineers, Communication, Recovery and Medical teams in the affected areas.The teams conducted rescue and relief operations and saved precious lives in Chiplun, Shirol, Hatkangle, Palus and Miraj areas.

New Delhi [India], May 13 (ANI): In view of the ongoing second wave of COVID-19 pandemic in the country, the Election Commission of India (ECI) on Thursday postponed the biennial election to Legislative Councils of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana till the pandemic situation significantly improves.
Notably, the term of office of three members of the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council and six members of Telangana Legislative Council elected by the members of respective Legislative Assemblies (MLAs) are expiring on May 31 and June 6 respectively.
The ECI said it has reviewed the matter and decided that due to the "outbreak of the second wave of COVID-19 in the country, it would not be appropriate to hold the biennial election to the Legislative Councils of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana respectively till the pandemic situation significantly improves and conditions become conducive to hold these biennial elections."

New Delhi [India], May 5 (ANI): In view of the outbreak of the second wave of COVID-19, the Election Commission (EC) of India on Wednesday decided to defer bye-elections in three Parliamentary constituencies and eight Assembly constituencies in different states and Union Territories (UT).
According to EC's notification, the Parliamentary constituencies where bye-polls were postponed are Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Khandwa (Madhya Pradesh) and Mandi (Himachal Pradesh).
The eight Assembly constituencies where by-polls are deferred are Kalka and Ellenabad in Haryana, Vallabhnagar in Rajasthan, Sindgi in Karnataka, Rajabala and Mawryngkneng (ST) in Meghalaya, Fatehpur in Himachal Pradesh and -Badvel (SC) in Andhra Pradesh.

Chandigarh (Punjab) [India], May 4 (ANI): Punjab Health Minister Balbir Singh Sidhu on Tuesday said that the coronavirus infection has started to spread to the rural areas because of which the positivity rate and the number of deaths are increasing in the state.
Speaking to ANI, Sidhu said: "The situation of Punjab is similar to the country. The positivity rate and the number of deaths are increasing in the state. People from Delhi, Haryana and other states are shifting to Punjab and this is the main reason for a surge in cases in the state."
