Parliament panel rejects pandemic as reason for govt failing to meet target for geo-tagging of Waqf properties | India News

NEW DELHI: A parliamentary panel has refused to accept that the lockdown due to the pandemic could have played a major role in preventing the ministry of minority affairs (MoMA) from meeting the March 2020 target of GIS mapping of 50% of all Waqf properties in the country. The standing committee on social justice and empowerment cites the reply filed by MoMA to point out that “the target date has been revised as March, 2022, which seems to be more realistic”.
There are over 6 lakh Waqf properties and GIS mapping is cited by MoMA as one of the main objectives of the computerisation of the records of the State Waqf Boards to prevent encroachment of Waqf properties. When MoMA filed its reply before the standing committee in June it stated that 96,000 properties had been geotagged. As of today around 1.21 lakh Waqf properties have been GIS mapped as per the Central Waqf Council and officials told TOI that work has picked up pace. ....

NEW DELHI: Union Minister for Minority Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said on Thursday that the “Wave of Development” cannot be stopped by “Waver of Destruction”.
The Government’s “Determination for Development”, which is based on “Development with Dignity” and “Development without Discrimination”, has shown revolutionary results and every section of the society has become an equal partner of mainstream development.
Addressing an orientation programme, organised by Central Waqf Council for officials of State Waqf Boards in New Delhi, Mr Naqvi said that for the first time after the Independence, the Government has constructed infrastructure on large scale for socio-economic and educational activities and skill development projects on Waqf properties across the country. ....

New Delhi, Jan 19 : A delegation of 20 religious leaders associated with the All India Sufi Sajjadanashin Council (AISSC) met Union Minority Affairs Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi on Tuesday. During the meeting various issues related to Waqf, Haj and dargahs were discussed.
About this meeting Naqvi said, Today I met a delegation of Sajjadanashin and prominent religious leaders of reputable dargahs across the country under the leadership of AlSSC and held positive talks on various issues related to the Waqf, Haj, dargahs. ....
