Australia provides $7.3 mln to combat violence against Vietnamese women, children By Khanh Lynh  May 25, 2021 | 12:51 pm GMT+7 The Australian government is funding a $7.3 mln program that seeks to help women and children in Vietnam live a life free of violence. It would be implemented from June 2021 to July 2025, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) said in a press release on Monday. Organizers expect the program to promote laws and policies, increase resource allocation and strengthen coordination to prevent and respond to violence against women and children, in line with national and international standards and commitments. They hope to see gender and social norm change promoted through communication, awareness raising, advocacy and community mobilization. ....
By Joseph Erunke ABUJA-GENDER advocates have tasked the governments at both the federal and state levels to give priority attention to sexual and gender based violence, regretting that lack of such was giving rise to the ugly situation in the country. They particularly called on the government to set up special courts for offences of gender and sexual violence just as it did to COVID-19. The advocates drawn from different civil society organisations and government sectors also attributed corruption to inability of the country to successfully tackle violence against women and girls. Contributing variously during a media dialogue on Ethical Reporting and Advocacy to Eliminate Violence against Women and girls in the Federal Capital Territory,FCT, organised by Spotlight Initiative and other development partners,in Abuja,they insisted on the need for government to establish special court in the land. ....
SGBV: FCT secures one conviction from 444 reported cases -Official If we can push for the establishment of special courts that will preside over sexual and domestic violence cases, it will go a long way in dispensing justice to survivors. ADVERTISEMENT The desk officer of the response team for sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV), federal capital territory (FCT), Ngozi Ike, has disclosed out of 444 SGBV cases reported in the city, only one conviction has been secured. The official, who blamed the development on slow trials, advocated special courts for cases of sexual violence in the country.
