Renovation which took 12 years wins at Nelson and Marlborough architecture awards


Twelve homes, commercial buildings and public facilities have been recognised for their architecture.
“Good things take time” is an old adage that rings true for a Nelson beachside home, after it won its architects recognition for a 12-year renovation.
Tahunanui House, by Irving Smith Architects, won one of the four awards given to the firm in the Nelson Marlborough region’s Te Kāhui Whaihanga New Zealand Institute of Architects awards for 2021.
The project incorporated two main stages and many smaller moves to optimise the family home.

Social housing developments rub shoulders with architectural homes in Wellington NZIA awards

Ten new houses received Housing Awards in the NZIA Wellington Architecture Awards.
Social housing and bespoke homes were both winners in a Wellington awards ceremony celebrating the best architecture in the region.
Two Kāinga Ora social housing developments, one in Mt Cook and one in Porirua, took out both the Housing – Multi Unit awards at the Te Kāhui Whaihanga New Zealand Institute of Architects Wellington Awards, while 10 new houses won Housing Awards.
The Kāinga Ora Hanson Street development of 20 one-bedroom homes in Mt Cook, by Herriot Melhuish O’Neill Architects, and the Castor Crescent development in Porirua by Tennent Brown Architects received special mention from the awards judges. ....
