University of Sudbury president supports 'calls for accountability' in Laurentian fiasco

Article content
The University of Sudbury is disappointed it can no longer consider Laurentian University a partner in education.
“It’s quite a blow to the federation and especially to the students who are counting on these courses, but especially to the communities we represent, especially the Francophone and Indigenous communities,” said Father John Meehan, president of the University of Sudbury. “It’s a big shock to everybody. We’ve been a committed member of the Laurentian community for 60 years. Our whole financial model has to change now. We never wanted an end to the federation.”

Canadian court rejects ex-Saudi spy's bid to release his assets | iNFOnews | Thompson-Okanagan's News Source

TORONTO - A former top intelligence agent who alleges Saudi Arabia s de facto ruler sent a hit squad to Canada to kill him has lost a bid to have his assets released.
In a ruling released Thursday, an Ontario Superior Court judge found Saad Aljabri had failed to show he was unfairly treated earlier when the court froze his assets after a secret hearing.
I find that Dr. Saad has not proven any non-disclosure that is objectively and sufficiently material to displace the current … orders as they relate to him, Justice Cory Gilmore ruled.
Aljabri, who spent decades in Saudi intelligence and now lives in Toronto, was unable to access his assets after a group of Saudi Arabian companies — they allege he embezzled hundreds of millions of dollars — applied for a so-called Mareva injunction in January. Saad was not at that hearing.

A former Saudi spy chief living in exile in Toronto says the de facto leader of Saudi Arabia, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, believes he is the source of the Central Intelligence Agency’s conclusion that the ruler ordered the assassination of Saudi dissident and Washington Post journalist Jamal Khashoggi.
In court documents filed Thursday, lawyers for Saad Aljabri, who held a cabinet-rank intelligence post under deposed crown prince Mohammed bin Nayef (known as MBN), denied allegations that he embezzled billions of dollars from Saudi Arabia and he is urging a Canadian court to lift a freeze on his worldwide assets.
