The South Australian Judicial Conduct Commissioner has concluded an investigation into complaints against a serving magistrate who was alleged to have been improper towards five women across seven years. It follows shortly after a state-wide report was released that revealed a magistrate had inappropriately texted a practitioner.
Early in May, the Honourable Anne Vanstone QC began to investigate a series of “preliminary examinations of complaints” about the conduct of a serving magistrate, who has not been named. The magistrate has denied impropriety. ....

The vast majority of complaints about New Zealand judges over the past 15 years have gone nowhere, despite a United Nations recommendation and calls from the public for change.
More than 3,200 complaints have been made about New Zealand judges since 2005, yet there have only been two occasions in which formal discipline was recommended.
The complaints over the past 15 years have been made to the body responsible for overseeing judges, the Judicial Conduct Commissioner (JCC).
The total, from figures come from the JCC’s own reports, cover all New Zealand courts and equates to four complaints a week. ....

Record-keeping in the public sector is still inconsistent and worrying, a new Archives New Zealand report has found.
Of 214 respondents in the new report – which includes ministries, departments, councils, district health boards, parliament offices and education entities – just 39 per cent had identified information that they hold which was of importance to Māori.
“It is a significant finding,” chief archivist Stephen Clarke said.
Of the respondents which said they don’t, or don’t know if they hold information that’s of importance to Māori, 61 per cent conducted business that intersects with the interests of Māori, including health, education, employment and the environment. ....
