Agri-industrial hub to rise in Taguig; DA chief explains how it will benefit Metro folk

The Agri-industrial Business Corridor (ABC) for freshwater aquaculture and urban farming will be the country’s second agri-industrial center, next to the New Clark City hub.
According to DA Secretary William Dar, the ABC will provide consumers with adequate and reasonably-priced food, particularly bangus and tilapia, and vegetables like mushrooms.
“We envision the Taguig ABC, along with the nearby Food Terminal Inc. (FTI), as part of the agri-industrial and food market hub that will serve the southeast quadrant of Metro Manila,” Dar said.
It will be established in partnership with the city government of Taguig and Laguna Lake Development Authority (LLDA). It is a 10-year project with an initial funding of P300 million under the Bayanihan 2 law, he said. ....

As an archipelago with 7,641 islands, the Philippines is mostly surrounded by water. Those residing in coastal areas make a livelihood from marine fishing. But over the years, there have been concerning issues such as the degradation of marine resources and the need for fisherfolk to be better represented.
To address these, the government passed an executive order that talks about the creation of a Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Management Council (FARMC) in 1995. Under E.O. no. 240, the management and control over fisheries and aquatic resources shall be done by the government through active and extensive participation of people directly affected. ....

THE 18 fisherfolk organizations in the town of Cordova, Cebu have new motorbancas they can use, materials of which were provided by the Cebu Cordova Link Expressway Corp. (CCLEC) as part of its corporate social responsibility program.
Aside from fishing, Cordova Mayor Mary Therese Sitoy-Cho said the 18 motorbancas can be used to ferry visitors to the town’s various tourist spots.
On Jan. 27, 2021, Cordova Parish Priest Rev. Fr. Ramil Baluran led the blessing of the newly finished boats in Barangay Day-as. The activity was graced by Cho, CCLEC vice president and project manager Herbert C. Laboy, officers of the Municipal Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Management Council (MFARMC) ....
