It has been reported on Monday, just after 7pm, that seven people had been declared dead in the aftermath, all occupants of the same vehicle.

An accident on the N3 highway in the KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) Midlands, involving a bus, tanker and other vehicles, has resulted in the deaths of seven people, dozens injured and a huge fire.
“The crash involved four vehicles – a tanker carrying a flammable substance, a bus, bakkie and another truck. The bus, tanker and bakkie caught alight after the crash. Tragically, seven people, all occupants of the bakkie sustained fatal injuries ....

Paramedics treated 15 people after a taxi overturned on the N2 in northern KZN on Monday.

Fifteen people were injured when a minibus taxi overturned on the N2 near Esikhawini, in northern KwaZulu-Natal, on Monday.
Robert McKenzie, spokesperson for KwaZulu-Natal Emergency Medical Services, said paramedics treated 15 people at the scene for “serious and minor injuries”.
“They were transported to hospital for further medical care.
“The exact cause of the crash is not known at this stage and is being investigated by police,” he said.
Earlier this month, MEC for transport, community safety and liaison Neliswa Peggy Nkonyeni had partnered with the SA National Taxi Council, “who are focusing on ensuring public transportation, especially the taxis, are safe on our roads”. ....

Boy, 6, drowns at KwaZulu-Natal beach

A 6-year-old boy drowned at La Mercy Lagoon beach near Durban on Monday.
The National Sea Rescue Institute s (NSRI) Ballito crew, Netcare 911, eThekwini municipality lifeguards, police, KwaZulu-Natal Emergency Medical Services and a local community emergency response team (CERT) responded to reports of a drowning at the beach at around 15:10.
The child had reportedly been located lifeless in the water by bystanders, who recovered the child to the shore where bystander CPR commenced. CERT members arriving on the scene assisted with CPR, NSRI spokesperson Craig Lambinon said.
Netcare 911 paramedics, including a Netcare 911 emergency care practitioner, continued with advanced life support CPR and they were joined by EMS paramedics, the NSRI and lifeguards. Despite extensive CPR efforts, the child has sadly been declared deceased, Lambinon added. ....

Two killed, 12 injured after container falls on taxi on N3 in KZN

Two people were killed and 12 were injured after a container fell from a truck onto a minibus on the N3 in KwaZulu-Natal on Wednesday morning.
KwaZulu-Natal Emergency Medical Services (EMS) spokesperson Robert Mckenzie said the incident happened on the N3 southbound just before the Ashburton bridge.
Mckenzie said four people sustained serious injuries and eight sustained minor injuries.
The N3 has been closed.
