On May 22, President of Nepal Bidya Devi Bhandari dissolved the Parliament. The Office of the President announced in a statement that the House of Representatives has been dissolved in accordance with Article 76(7) of the Constitution. Under the provision, House dissolution should take place if the Prime Minister appointed as per clause 5 fail to gain trust of the House.
As per the Article, a date to conduct another election within six months must also be fixed. The President has called early elections pursuant to the Article, the dates being set for November 12 and November 19. The latest decision is also likely to be challenged in court and a decision could take weeks. ....

Don’t hold political programmes from March 17-26: DMP

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has requested the political parties not to hold any programme from March 17 to 26 this year when a number of important foreign guests will visit the country.
Any political party, ignoring the request and going ahead with programmes during this period will be considered anti-state, DMP’s counter-terrorism unit chief and acting commissioner Md Monirul Islam said at a press conference on Sunday.
Bangladesh is all set to observe the golden jubilee of independence and the birth centenary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman through a series of special programmes from March 17 to 26. ....
