Edo NOA Commends Gov. Obaseki, Marks World Glaucoma Week,


BENIN CITY – The Edo State Chapter of Nigerian Optometric Association (NOA), have commended Governor Godwin Obaseki for his developmental strides in the State especially in the areas of infrastructure, economy, human and capital development.
The Association which also lauded the Obaseki’s led administration in Edo State for the ongoing Civil Service jobs recruitment in the state, passionately appealed to the Governor for the inclusion of Optometrists in the employment exercise.
NOA lamented that its members have not benefited from various employments carried out by the state government, hence, the need for the appeal.
The State Chairman of the Association, Dr. Joseph Owie, made the appeal yesterday in Benin City, the Edo State Capital, while addressing journalists during this year’s World Glaucoma Week, tagged “The World is bright, save your sight” ....

The Harmattan is here again. Most parts of the country are already feeling the harsh weather condition. The Harmattan is a season in the West African subcontinent, which occurs between the end of November and the middle of March. It is characterised by dry and dusty northeasterly trade wind, of the same name, which blows from the Sahara Desert over West Africa into the Gulf of Guinea. It is cold in most places, but can be hot in some places, depending on circumstances.
It has been shown that during Harmattan, humidity drops to as low as 15 per cent, which can result in spontaneous nosebleeds for some people. Other health effects on humans may include conditions of the skin (scales, chicken pox and measles), eyes (conjunctivitis), and respiratory system (cold cough and catarrh), including aggravation of asthma. ....
