Nigeria’s immediate past Ambassador to Singapore, Ogbole Amedu Ode has called on the Nigerian federal government and her embassy in the United Arab Emirates to urgently mediate with authorities there to secure the release of citizens detained in the emirates.
Ode, who is also a former spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs spoke to Vanguard in Abuja explaining that in recent times, there is a reckoning within foreign policy experts that Nigeria is punching far below its weight.
It was gathered that on  December 9, 2020, security operatives raided the homes of many African migrants, most of whom are Nigerians living in Al Qouz, Abu Hail, Sharjah, Al Barsha, Deira and other places. ....

Fed Govt extends deadline for NIN-SIM integration

The Federal Government has extended the deadline for the provision of the National Identification Number by telecommunication service subscribers.
The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) had last week ordered telecommunications companies to within two weeks block all SIM cards not linked to NIN.
This led to uncontrollable crowds at NIMC offices across the country amidst the second wave of COVID-19.
However, a new deadline was announced in a statement released, on Monday, by the Federal Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy.
The statement was jointly signed by the Executive Vice-Chairman, Nigerian Communications Commission, Umar Danbatta; and Director-General, National Identity Management Commission, Aliyu Aziz. ....

FG Extends NIN-SIM Card Linkage Deadline

By The federal government yesterday extended the initial deadline fixed for the integration of Subscriber Information Module (SIM) cards with National Identity Number (NIN), from December 30 to February 19 for all subscribers without NIN and from December 30 to January 19 for all subscribers that have already obtained their NIN.
It also suspended all USSD and verification charges for the duration of the extension.
The federal government, last week, had ordered the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) to enforce the SIM-NIN integration within two weeks period from December 16 to 30, with a further order to enforce the blocking of the SIM cards of any subscriber that could not complete the exercise with two weeks. ....
