Sustainability led innovation is fundamental today for companies in the agribusiness sector, says DSM.
“Over the past 18 months, we have seen a lot of change, [the focus on sustainability] has really accelerated. I think that is being driven on a number of fronts. On the one hand, large investors are looking at the large animal protein companies, from a risk and return point of view, and putting pressure on them to step up, in this respect. Consumers are increasingly aware of [environmental impacts of food production] and are looking for food items that are labelled credibly in relation to their sustainability footprint. ....

During a recent webinar about grazing management on sheep farms, Philip Creighton of Teagasc spoke about the benefits of applying nitrogen (N) this spring.
Philip said: “Once we have built our grass covers as part of our closing plan, we need a number of things such as heat, moisture and N to boost growth rates.
“The decisions around what to apply and when to apply is based around our stocking rate (our demand) and how much grass we need.
“By applying N early we can see many benefits, especially in terms of reducing concentrate requirements and ultimately costs. ....

A team led by Technical University of Munich (TUM) physicists Christoph Utschick and Prof. Rudolf Gross has succeeded in making a coil with superconducting wires capable of transmitting power on the order of more than five kilowatts contactless and with only small losses. The wide range of conceivable applications include autonomous industrial robots, medical equipment, vehicles and even aircraft.
Contactless power transmission has already established itself as a key technology when it comes to charging small devices such as mobile telephones and electric toothbrushes. Users would also like to see contactless charging made available for larger electric machines such as industrial robots, medical equipment and electric vehicles. ....
