Help is at hand for stroke survivors in regional NSW
Hundreds of survivors of stroke in regional New South Wales will receive additional support to manage their recovery and improve their quality of life as part of the new Stroke Foundation StrokeLine Outreach Service.
The StrokeLine Outreach Service has been established through a $50,000 COVID-19 Community Recovery Grant from Newcastle Permanent Charitable Foundation and will ensure stroke survivors and their carers are supported to access the information, resources and services to assist them with their recovery.
Stroke Foundation New South Wales State Manager Rhian Paton-Kelly said survivors of stroke will now receive a follow up service after they are discharged from hospital. ....

A Bolwarra Heights woman, determined to use her personal experience to raise community awareness of working-age stroke and the condition aphasia, has been recognised with a national award.
Emma Beesley has today been announced as the 2021 Courage Award winner at the national Stroke Awards in an online celebration.
Emma, a former lawyer who experienced a stroke four years ago at the age of 33, is passionate about being a voice for people with aphasia, but admitted it has been a long – and sometimes dark – journey to get to this point.
“I am proud of winning this award and of turning a life-changing event into something positive,” Emma said. ....

A Picnic Point man has been recognised at the Stroke Foundation’s 2021 national Stroke Awards for his tireless dedication to raising awareness of stroke and drawing from his own experience to improve delivery of care for future patients.
Brian A Beh has today been announced the winner of the Improving Life after Stroke Award in an online celebration.
The 73 year old retired management consultant, who has dedicated many hours to sharing his experience with stroke and rehabilitation with clinicians and students, said he was honoured to receive the award.
“I get a great deal of satisfaction from lecturing and sharing my insights and learnings with health professionals and other stakeholders in the stroke community,” Brian said. ....
