Just like our relationships with our mothers, each student also has a unique relationship with their university. Often, this relationship is imbued with joys of discovery, learning, and of course growing up. For many others, it is a time of intense struggle, both financial or personal, bullying, and in terms of universities in South Asia, often marred with dirty politics. And yet, the institution and its legacy is always larger than the sum of its parts.
As an alumnus myself, the greatest take from university is a group of wonderful people I call friends, and some lifelong lessons but not the academic kind, as I scarcely remember anything from the complicated derivations and theories, and the horrors of exams. Bangladesh Embassy in Beijing celebrated the Birth Centenary of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in a befitting manner.
This Day is also being observed as National Children Day. The combination of the Birth Centenary and the Golden Jubilee of the independence, the architect of which is Bangabandhu himself, posited this year s event into a special significance. Bangabandhu visited China in the year 1952 and 1957, which left a long-lasting impression on him, and it is reflected in his sole travel account “the New China in My Eyes”. ....

Students returning to halls but Jahangirnagar University undecided about reopening

But the university administration is in two minds over whether or not to reopen the halls since the government has not given any instructions.
Tabia Islam, a protesting student, said on Sunday the female students have not returned to the halls due to security reasons but they expect the authorities to reopen all the residential halls within 24 hours.
The students, enraged by clashes with locals of Gerua village next to the campus on Friday, broke into the closed dormitories during demonstration on Saturday.
Before entering the halls, the students marched towards the residence of Vice-Chancellor Farzana Islam and staged a sit-in outside her home demanding that the authorities reopen the halls. ....

Jahangirnagar Univ: 11 students suspended for ragging

The suspension took effect on January 9, it added.
The students are Md Shihab, Md Akash Hossain, Md Moshiur Rahman Bhuiyan, Md Tamim Hossain, Md Rizwan Rashed Soan, Fayzul Islam Nirob, Shimul Ahmed, Shakil Mahmud, Alauddin Yousuf, Rozen Noor and Saroar Hossain Shakil. Key accused Shihab, a student of the marketing department, has been suspended for two years and the rest for a year. All are second-year students of different departments.
In July 2019, Shihab, along with his accomplices, entered the common room of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall late at night and began bullying the freshers, the release said.
At one stage, they beat up a first-year student, leaving him unconscious. ....
