DHAKA, May 4, 2021 (BSS) – The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) today approved a Taka 3,076.22 crore project to enhance the capacity and ensure modernization of distribution network of Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board (BREB), which is expected to benefit and ensure uninterrupted power supply to some 34.30 lakh consumers in Khulna Division.
The approval came from the 24th meeting of the ECNEC in the current fiscal year (FY21) held with its Chairperson and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair. The Premier chaired the meeting virtually from her official Ganabhaban residence. ....

The government has undertaken a big move to enhance the capacity and also ensure modernization of distribution network of Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board (BREB), which is expected to benefit and ensure uninterrupted power supply to some 34.30 lakh consumers in Khulna Division.
The BREB under the Power Division will implement the project with an estimated cost of Taka 3,076.22 crore by June 2025.
Of the total project cost, Taka 567.26 crore will come from the government of Bangladesh portion, Taka 808.88 crore will come from the respective organization’s own fund while the rest of Taka 1,700.07 crore as project assistance from the Asian Development Bank (ADB). ....

Stressing on implementing projects before scheduled timeframe, State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid today said there is no alternative way of hundred percent achievement of Annual Development Programme (ADP) without implementing projects before the stipulated time amid coronavirus pandemic.
“We have to continuously make efforts for implementing projects before the scheduled timeframe for achieving ADP by maintaining necessary health guidelines of the Covid-19 pandemic,” he said while addressing an online review meeting on implementation progress of the development projects under the Power Division here today.
Underscoring the need for publicity of the works of the Power Division, the state minister said, “We have to enhance communication with the subscribers.” ....

DHAKA, April 4, 2021 (BSS) – Roughly 14,300 MW electricity and 1,550 mmcfd gas will be needed at the pick hour during the ongoing summer, according to an inter-ministerial meeting held today virtually.
The meeting was held on power supply during the upcoming Ramadan and ongoing summer season and instructed all concerned to ensure uninterrupted supply of power and energy during the holy month of Ramadan and the summer as well.
Prime Minister’s energy advisor Dr Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury, Bir Bikram, addressed the meeting as the chief guest with State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid in the chair. ....
