The Congress party won six out of seven municipal corporations in Punjab, officials said on Wednesday.

In the backdrop of the farmers protest against agricultural reform laws and in a major shot in the arm for the Congress ahead of next year s Punjab elections, the party registered a thumping win in the state urban body polls on Wednesday. The Amarinder Singh-led Congress won six municipal corporations and emerged as the largest party in the seventh.
The Congress bagged Bathinda, Hoshiarpur, Kapurthala, Abohar, Batala and Pathankot while in Moga, the party requires victories in six more wards to control the municipal corporation. ....
