All water samples fail purity test, Chander Nagar residents moves rights panel | Ludhiana News


Ludhiana: The residents of Chander Nagar are up in arms against the municipal corporation for its failure to provide them clean drinking water. Recently, they had got water samples from their area tested. The report, received on July 30, showed all samples failed the purity test. Through NGO Mahatar Sathi Jagriti Manch, the residents, on Tuesday, complained to the Punjab State Human Rights Commission and the MC commissioner.
They said, “The MC must provide clean drinking water when it is collecting the service charge. As the area is around Buddha Nullah, the water is getting contaminated.”
The samples were taken from the houses of Keemti Rawal and Mukesh Kumar, a government primary school and a handloom store. These were sent to PAU for testing with the help of district health department. The results showed E coli in excess in two samples. ....

SBS Nagar residents approach rights panel against illegal dumping of debris | Ludhiana News


LUDHIANA: Irked over frequent dumping of debris by contractors at a vacant land in Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar, the area residents have approached the Punjab State Human Rights Commission, saying Ludhiana Improvement Trust (LIT) officials are not acting on their complaints. It is 18 acres of prime land of LIT.
The residents said with the arrival of monsoon, it will create problems for them as along with debris, garbage, too, is being dumped at the site.
Arvind Sharma, an activist and resident of the area, said, “Some land is lying vacant in Block D of SBS Nagar where residential flats are to be constructed. There, hills of garbage and debris are being made by contractors who bring trolleys loaded with dump. We have raised the matter with officials several times, but to no avail. On Saturday evening, too, a trolley unloaded the debris at the vacant land. We recorded the activity and decided to approach the human rights commission.” ....

As India fights the pandemic with its back to the wall, medical experts have flagged the need to strengthen the tobacco control movement countrywide. Punjab: 8 IPS officers promoted as ADGP; 10 transferred

Eight IPS officers were on Tuesday promoted to the rank of Additional Director General of Police in Punjab

Chandigarh: Eight IPS officers were on Tuesday promoted to the rank of Additional Director General of Police in Punjab, according to an order issued by the state home department.
Among them were Inspector General rank officers Promod Ban, M F Farooqui, Amit Prasad and G Nageswara Rao, it said.

Two officers Kapil Dev and Rajiv Ahir who have also been promoted as ADGP are at present on central deputation, it added.
Meanwhile, 10 IPS officers were given new posting orders. ....
