CALGARY A man died Monday when the bus he was inspecting accidentally ran over him. The incident took place Monday afternoon at the First Canada school bus facility at 4836 6 Street N.E. According to a police spokesperson, a driver put his bus into gear, then left the bus to inspect something. At that point, the bus moved, running over the driver, who died. Calgary police and OHS (Occupational Health and Safety) are on scene, investigating. This is a developing story.. Share: ....
CALGARY Some are saying the province took concept of spring break a little too literally over the Easter long weekend, leaving COVID-concerned Albertans parched for information as the pandemic sprouted new variants. While Alberta Health Services are earning kudos for their COVID-19 TV commercials, others were asking why there was little more than a few tweets from Dr. Hinshaw over the weekend as the COVID count climbed to its highest levels since early January. Saturday, Hinshaw tweeted about a significant COVID-19 outbreak of the Brazilian variant, involving a traveler, but the province provided no other information over the weekend as Albertans carried on with their long weekend plans. ....
CALGARY As variant COVID-19 case numbers continue to climb in Alberta, Premier Jason Kenney and the emergency management cabinet committee have moved their meeting a day earlier to Tuesday and Dr. Deena Hinshaw is scheduled to deliver an update later in the afternoon. The province s chief medical officer of health has not spoken public since just before the Easter long weekend. The meeting and announcement come amid increasing calls from some health professionals and the NDP opposition for the reintroduction of stricter restrictions as variants currently account for nearly 40 per cent of all new cases. In a detailed media release, Alberta reported 887 new infections on Monday, marking the sixth straight update where more than 850 new cases were reported. ....
CALGARY Early Monday evening, the Lethbridge Police Service said an investigation into a report of a van with five people in it in a purported Easter Sunday abduction attempt was actually a misunderstanding . According to LPS officials, a 12-year-old girl called police Sunday afternoon to report a troubling incident near the Lakeview School baseball diamonds along Henderson Lake Boulevard South. The girl indicated a van had stopped near her and several people got out of the vehicle. She said the offenders attempted to grab her but she successfully eluded them and managed to run away. Early Monday evening, the LPS issued a statement that said the van and occupants were in the area for a group outing and were running to the park to play ball. ....
