Popular Russian independent news website Meduza said Monday that authorities are attempting to “kill” it with an onerous foreign agent designation that will strip it of advertising revenue and put employees at risk of jail time.
The Justice Ministry declared Meduza, one of the country’s most-read news outlets, a “foreign agent” on Friday. The designation, which Meduza vows to challenge in court, requires it to slap the “foreign agent” label on all published content and report its activities to the authorities. ....

MUZAFFARABAD: An academic research carried out to explore the situation of freedom of press, challenges and capacity issues of the journalists working on both sides of Line of Control (LoC), a heavily militarised border between India and Pakistan, successfully completed with the close collaboration of the journalist fraternity of both parts of the disputed state. The study titled “Challenges to Journalists Working in Conflict Zone: A Case Study of Muzaffarabad and Srinagar” called upon the global media organisations, incumbent governments and the owners of the media houses to take immediate and solid steps to equip Kashmiri journalists on safety measures particularly in conflict zone on both sides of the LoC. Scholar Mubashir Naqvi, who is visiting lecturer at Journalism and Mass Communication Department of UAJK, Muzaffarabad has dedicated his research work to the martyred Kashm ....

Govt. urged to provide better healthcare to journalists

The Press Club of Hyderabad has requested the State government to provide better healthcare facilities to working journalists, particularly those contracting the coronavirus infection and facing problems both in hospitalisation and treatment.
In a letter addressed to Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar on Saturday, president of the Press Club S. Vijay Kumar Reddy stated that about 15 working journalists had succumbed to COVID in the last 20 days after contracting it in the field while discharging their duties in dissemination of information. The working journalists were facing problems in timely detection of infection and treatment.
Stating that there was a need to provide separate queue facility for journalists at the COVID testing centres both in Hyderabad and districts and also allot beds in the event of their contracting the infection and hospitalisation gets inevitable he said there were several instances of infected journalists facing ....
