Implementation of B20 biodiesel mandate in Sabah, Peninsular Malaysia delayed due to pandemic, high CPO prices — sources


KUALA LUMPUR (June 2): The execution of the B20 biodiesel programme in Sabah and Peninsular Malaysia has been postponed, to a date to be decided upon later.
Sources with knowledge on the matter said the decision was based on the rise in Covid-19 cases as well as the nationwide Movement Control Order (MCO).
“The Covid-19 pandemic has impacted the movement of manpower by petroleum companies in the preparation process for biodiesel blending in Sabah and Peninsular Malaysia,” they added.
The sources added discussions with parties involved are being held to discuss an implementation date that is more realistic, subject to the MCO. ....

Malaysia to sue European Union in WTO lawsuit over palm oil : Biofuels Digest


“Datuk Dr. Mohd Khairuddin Aman Razali, Plantation Industries and Commodities Minister said at a press conference at the Palm Oil Economic Review and Outlook Virtual Conference 2021, that Malaysia will continue to fight against any discriminatory actions which pose a threat to the country’s economy and the livelihood of its people,” according to Scandasia. “The EU has adopted a delegated act proposal that implements the Renewable Energy Directive II (REDII). In RED II, the overall EU target for Renewable Energy Sources consumption by 2030 has been raised to 32%. The directive suggests that crops like palm oil could cause deforestation and increase use of transportation fuel which contributes to greenhouse emission and indirectly leads to land-use change – which then classifies these crops as a “high-risk” activity.” ....

Plantation Industries and Commodities Minister Datuk Dr Mohd Khairuddin Aman Razali said Malaysia will continue to fight against any discriminatory actions which pose a threat to the country’s economy and the livelihood of its people.
“The legal action is in the process. We have brought a memorandum to the Cabinet and it has agreed to take action against the EU for the latter’s plan to limit and phase out palm oil imports which we see as discriminatory. ....

KUALA LUMPUR: The Ministry of Plantation Industries and Commodities (KPPK) has given an assurance that oil palm plantations will be given permission to operate as usual if the government implements the Movement Control Order (MCO) 2.0.
Minister Datuk Dr Mohd Khairuddin Aman Razali said this was important to ensure that palm oil production was not interrupted and the country could continue its commodity exports to the rest of the world.
We have gone through the MCO 1.0 phase in March 2020 and today we have been through it for almost one year. Of course, we have learned the best way for us to manage the plantations more prudently. ....
