Robert Van Kuyl became a paraplegic after a helicopter accident four years ago; but with National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) supports, is working towards his goal of being out of his wheelchair by Christmas.
The 65-year-old from Scarborough keeps busy with exercise therapy, which is helping to improve his strength and ability to walk with crutches.
“My support worker drives me to exercise therapy at Burleigh where I do my two-hour training session,” he said.
“The job they do there is amazing; they push you in that gym and the improvements are mind-blowing. ....

The nine-year-old has cerebral palsy, but by taking part in hippotherapy and hydrotherapy
Lyn-Eve has been able to adapt to new ways of developing her strength and reaching her goals.
Lyn-Eve s mum, Janine, said the NDIS had made a huge difference to her daughter coming out of her shell .

On Thursdays, Lyn-Eve attends hydrotherapy before school and in the afternoon attends hippotherapy, she said.
Lyn-Eve enjoys attending hippotherapy with another girl her own age, and they often do group activities together, such as throwing the ball to each other on horseback or walking each other s horse. ....

NASH Johnson has vision loss, but that has not stopped him from playing his beloved football.

Mum Cresta said Nash started to lose vision two years ago and was eventually diagnosed with Leber s Hereditary Optic Neuropathy.
She said when that happened, he felt he lost a part of himself and his social network.
Then a senior team player at his club took him under his wing to help him in the team to keep him positive and give him confidence that he can do this, and now he s his support worker through the NDIS, Cresta said. ....
