Vacant house catches fire, no one injured


A vacant house caught fire Wednesday night in the 500 block of Cotton Grove Road in Lexington. 
Responders arrived at 10:57 p.m. to find heavy smoke and fire coming from the building, according to a news release. 
Responders didn t find anyone inside the house. Neighbors said although the house was supposed to be vacant, they had seen a couple of people staying there without the permission of the owner. 
Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire, and the Lexington fire marshal is investigating the cause.

Lexington: Fire marshal investigating fire in vacant home

The Lexington fire marshal is investigating a fire that happened at a vacant home Wednesday night.Firefighters responded to the 500 block of Cotton Grove Road at 10:57 p.m. The crew said it saw heavy smoke ad fire coming from the structure. As the crews were working to put out the fire and search for people inside, neighbors told them the home was vacant, but they believed a couple of people had been living inside without permission from the owner.The search showed the house was clear, firefighters said.The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Lexington fire marshal. ....

Proposed commercial development project will require demolishing former Lexington church building

A proposed commercial development project on Cotton Grove Road in Lexington will mean saying goodbye to a nearly 75-year-old church building that will be torn down to make room for new retail, restaurant and office buildings.
The Lexington City Council approved by consent Monday night the issuance of a major zoning permit that will allow a Charlotte-based commercial development company to move forward with its plans to purchase the former Fairmont Presbyterian Church property at 1502 Cotton Grove Road.
Once purchased, the development company will build two commercial buildings on the property after the church is demolished,  The current owners are listed as Fairmont Presbyterian Church and Jan Shuler. ....
