Governor withdraws inquiry into charges against Government College University VC - Pakistan

LAHORE: Punjab Governor/Chancellor Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar on Thursday withdrew his orders about holding an inquiry against Government College University (GCU) Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Asghar Zaidi for allegedly harassing and threatening the chairperson of computer science department with dire consequences.
The governor had, on April 12, issued directions to the Higher Education Department (HED) secretary to conduct an inquiry against Prof Zaidi for allegedly harassing computer science department chairperson Prof Dr Syed Asad Raza Kazmi and submit a detailed report within 15 days.
However, the governor withdrew his orders in three days due to reasons unknown while his spokesperson was also not available for a comment. ....

LAHORE:Pakistan Tehreek-e- Insaf government established five universities in the province during the year 2019-20, the Punjab Assembly was told on Monday. According to a report laid on the floor of PA, the universities set up between 2019-20 include Women University Rawalpindi, University of Mianwali, University of Chakwal, Kohsar University Murree and Guru Nanak University, district Nankana.
Meanwhile, the government came under immense criticism for its failure in controlling price hike. During a debate over inflation, PPP parliamentary leader Syed Hassan criticised the government for its inability to address the issue of price hike which was adding to woes of people. He also said that the PTI government was responsible for the prevailing inflation in the country that had skyrocketed since it came to power in 2018. Govt formed separate committees to recommend suitable candidates for four universities
LAHORE:
Punjab Higher Education Department (HED) has completed interviews for filling the vacant posts of the vice chancellors (VCs) of four public sector universities in the province.
As many as 164 candidates were interviewed by the committees for the appointments.
According to officials of the department, four new VCs would be appointed in the province’s universities. The posts are vacant in the University of Chakwal, Kohsar University Murree, Baba Guru Nanak University Nankana Sahib and University of Mianwali.
“A total of 226 candidates applied for the posts of VC, out of which 164 candidates were shortlisted for interviews,” an official of the department told The Express Tribune. ....
