PPP lawmaker Sharmila Farooqi on Sunday threw her weight behind the University of Lahore (UoL) students who were recently expelled by the varsity over a proposal video that went viral on social media.
In the video, a female student can be seen going down on one knee and proposing to another student, who hugs her in response.
The video stirred a storm on social media, generating praise and admiration from the Pakistani Twitterati.

LAHORE: The University of Lahore (UoL) administration on Friday expelled the students whose video went viral on social media.
In the video, the boy and girl students could be seen proposing for marriage with a large number of fellow students standing around and cheering the students. After the viral video attracted widespread reaction, the UoL administration formed a special disciplinary committee which held its meeting on Friday.
The committee decided to expel the students for “violating the university’s rules and regulations and serious infraction of the code of conduct.” Furthermore, as per Section 16 of General Discipline Rules and Code of Conduct on the Campus, the students have been debarred from entering the premises of the University of Lahore and all its sub-campuses. ....

The issue of illegal sub-campuses of private sector universities in Punjab has been lingering on for a long time after the HED declared 23 sub-campuses of six private universities as illegal on January 10, 2020 and asked their managements to stop further intake of students and also shift the enrolled students to the main campuses to complete their degrees. ....
