DILG joins biz groups' call to Congress for swift passage of econ bills, charter reforms


QUEZON CITY, Feb. 23 The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) added its voice to the call of influential business groups to Congress for the swift passage of pending economic bills including economic constitutional reforms (Economic CORE) as the House of Representatives began plenary hearings on Resolution of Both Houses No. 2.
DILG Spokesperson and Undersecretary Jonathan E. Malaya said they join the call to the Senate and the House of Representatives of five (5) respected business groups who collectively expressed their strong support for the initiatives of the Duterte administration to open the Philippine economy as a means for economic recovery and sustainability. ....

Business supports initiatives to further reopen PH economy

Local businesses are strongly supporting initiatives to reopen further the Philippine economy, which has suffered from long lockdowns and quarantines due to COVID-19.
“We, the undersigned, express our strong support for the initiatives of the Duterte administration to open the Philippine economy as a means for economic recovery and sustainability,” according to a statement by  Federation of Filipino Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Inc., Foundation for Economic Freedom, Inc., Management Association of the Philippines, Subdivision and Housing Developers Association, Inc., and  UP School of Economics Alumni Association.

Clamor for immediate passage of CREATE bill

Multisectoral groups, comprising of 51 largest and widely-represented private sector associations, have urged for the immediate enactment of the Corporate Recovery and Tax Incentives for Enterprises (CREATE) bill to boost market confidence, save jobs and provide instant relief to businesses’ suffering from the COVID-19 impact.
“We, members of some of the largest and most widely-represented private sector groups in the country, reiterate our strongest and unequivocal support for the immediate enactment of the CREATE Bill,” stated the joint statement.
Congress has been deliberating the CREATE Bill for three years already, but both Houses have a hard time reconciling their versions.  ....
