Just as the Leo Lions Club populated the island with a wide array of scarecrows for their own contest, the Block Island School Student Council hopes to light up the town with a home lighting holiday decorating contest.
Junior Whitney McGinnes, president of the Student Council, said the group was looking for ways to “boost holiday cheer” in place of the events they would normally schedule, such as movie nights, “but because of corona we can’t have regular events, so we decided to have a lights contest.” She said her own family “enjoyed driving around to see the scarecrows. That was a fun thing to do safely.” ....
