Minister Foley announces development of a New Digital Strategy for Schools
 
Minister for Education Norma Foley TD today announced the development of a new Digital Strategy for Schools, commencing with a wide-ranging consultation process.
The new Digital Strategy for Schools will replace the existing strategy, which will run out in the current school year.
Minister Foley said:
I am pleased to announce this important work on a new Digital Strategy for Schools.
It is my aim that the new strategy will build on what has been achieved to date. Significant progress has been made in the lifetime of the existing strategy. In particular, real commitment has been shown by school leaders and teachers in planning for the embedding of digital technologies, to support teaching and learning, and has been key to the successful implementation to date. ....

Eleven Longford primary schools are to be connected to broadband by the end of 2022.
The schools are: Scoil Mhuire, Aughnagarron; Killasonna Mixed National School; Naomh Earnain NS Killashee; Muckerstaff National School; Gaigue National School; Scoil Bhríde, Glen; Fermoyle National School; Forgney National School; Saint Patrick’s National School; Cloontagh Mixed National School and Naomh Guasachta National School (Bunlahy). 
679 schools nationwide are to be connected in an acceleration of the National Broadband Plan (NBP) announced by the Government and NBI last Thursday, December 10. 
Under the originally planned roll out, some schools would have had to wait up to seven years for connection. Now, all schools will be connected within two years. ....

679 schools to be connected to broadband by end of 2022 as part of 'investment in rural Ireland'

It has been announced today (Thursday, December 10) that 679 schools will be connected to high-speed broadband by the end of 2022, in an acceleration of the National Broadband Plan (NBP).
Under the originally-planned rollout, some schools were expecting to wait up to seven years for connection. Now, according to the government and National Broadband Ireland (NBI), “all schools will be connected within two years”.
Some 70 schools across the country will become broadband connection points (BCPs) by the first quarter of 2021, receiving “150Mb high-speed connectivity for educational access”. The first 25 schools have already been connected.
BCPs, delivered under the NBP, will “ensure that primary school pupils in rural Ireland will be able to participate fully in the digital revolution that is taking place”. ....
