The government has showered auto assemblers with a number of incentives like a cut in the Federal Excise Duty (FED) by 2.5 per cent, additional customs duty (ACD) from 7pc to 2pc and general sales tax (GST) to 12.5pc from 17pc on cars up to 1,000cc. KARACHI: Car sales increased 57 percent to 151,182 units during the last fiscal year of 2020/21, the industry’s data showed on Tuesday, with the growth mainly attributed to muted demand in the previous Covid-addled year.
Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association’s (PAMA) data showed that car sales of its member companies stood at 96,455 units during the fiscal year of 2019/20.
Auto analyst Umair Naseer at Topline Securities attributed the growth to low base effect due to COVID-19 linked lockdowns in FY20 when total car sales were 28 percent lower than the highest sales of around 329,000 units recorded in FY2018. ....

Car sales skyrocket 90% in FY21
Demand, however, remains 28% lower compared to peak recorded in FY18
KARACHI:
The total number of cars sold in Pakistan in fiscal year 2020-21 soared 90% compared to the previous fiscal year (FY20), but sales remained 28% lower than the all-time high of 329,000 units reached in FY18.
Pakistan’s total car sales were estimated to have increased by 90% year-on-year to 238,000 units in fiscal year 2020-21, stated a report released by Topline Securities on Tuesday.
The report took into account sales by Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association (PAMA) and non-PAMA members as well as imports.
According to it, PAMA members sold 181,000 units during fiscal year 2020-21, which was 62% higher than fiscal year 2019-20. ....
