The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet here on Friday approved the flagship ‘Kamyab Pakistan Program’ besides approving several other projects.
The ECC meeting was chaired by Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, Shaukat Tarin, according to press statement by Finance Ministry here.
The meeting was attended by Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research, Fakhar Imam; Federal Minister for Energy, Hammad Azhar; SAPM on Finance and Revenue, Dr. Waqar Masood; SAPM on Power and Petroleum, Tabish Gauhar; SAPM on Youth Affairs, Usman Dar, Secretaries of Finance Division, Communication and Industries and Production. ISLAMABAD:
The federal government has decided to increase prices of wheat flour, sugar and cooking oil in the range of 19% to 53% at the Utility Stores Corporation (USC) by reducing subsidies for the poor, taking a second major administrative decision in as many days that will further fuel inflation.
The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the cabinet on Friday increased the sugar prices to an amount even more than what the Ministry of Industry had recommended in its summary.
Despite the claimed sugarcane bumper crop, the ECC meeting – chaired by Minister for Finance Shaukat Tarin – also approved to import 200,000 metric tons more sugar, taking the total quantity to 300,000 metric tons within three weeks. ....

ISLAMABAD: The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the cabinet on Friday approved import of 200,000 tons sugar, subsidy on DAP fertiliser for cotton and rice crops and procurement of 200,000 cotton bales by Trading Corporation of Pakistan.
The ECC also granted approval for increasing rates of sugar, wheat flour and ghee at Utility Stores Corporation (USC) of Pakistan. The price of sugar was jacked up from Rs68 per kg to Rs85 per kg, ghee from Rs170 to Rs260 per kg and Atta from Rs850 per bag to Rs950 per bag at USC.
The ECC also granted approval for the draft policy directives related to auction of next generation mobile services (NGMS) in Jammu and Kashmir. ....

The federal cabinet’s Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) on Friday approved a substantial hike on prices of essential commodities such as wheat flour, ghee and sugar, notably allowing the subsidized Utility Stores Corporation to sell them at rates closer to market values.
In a statement issued after the meeting, which was led by Finance Minister Shaukat Tarin and attended by one two of the committee’s 14 members, the ECC said it had increased the prices of the edibles on the recommendation of the Ministry of Industries and Production. It said that the price of ghee at the subsidized Utility Stores was increasing from Rs. 170/kg to Rs. 260/kg, a 53 percent ....
