I wish the scientist-writer had quoted some source to let us know when, where and exactly what the Quaid-i-Azam said that showed he “feared and disliked” China. In Jinnah’s lifetime, China was a divided country. During his crucial years as leader of the Pakistan movement, he saw China engaged, first, in resisting the Japanese invaders, and, second, after the war, in civil war between Mao Zedong’s Communist Party of China and Chiang Kai-shek’s Nationalist Party. Even during the 13 months he lived as Pakistan’s head of state, Jinnah never had the pleasure or fear of seeing China united or Red.

KARACHI: The Institute of Historical and Social Research (IHSR) organised an evening of remembrance at the Zaki Hasan Auditorium at the Jinnah Medical and Dental College for several scholars who recently lost their lives to the Covid-19 pandemic. Addressing the sombre gathering, Dr Syed Jaffar Ahmed said that everyone had read about pandemics in history but who had thought that they would also see one in their lifetime. “It’s a national and international calamity. But making the most of the time spent working from home, IHSR’s researchers got the time to work on several reports about how Pakistan coped with the pandemic. We have 30 such reports ready along with books, too, penned by notable personalities such Zahida Hina and Anis Haroon,” he said.

Stability of economy depends on efficient tax collection system July 2, 2021 SUKKUR: Speakers at a webinar said on Thursday that stability and progress of the national economy depends on an efficient tax collection system based on justice and covering all income groups. They called for reducing non-development expenditures, increasing exports and reviving sick industries. The webinar, organised by the Sindh University s Pakistan Study Centre in collaboration with the Islamia University Bahawalpur, was presided over by Vice Chancellor University of Sindh Professor Dr Muhammad Siddique Kalhoro. In his remarks, the vice chancellor said the webinar on tax reforms had raised the participants understanding regarding the tax system and the new initiatives taken by the government. He said these initiatives will further contribute to improving the tax system and the overall documentation linked with the economy.
