PESHAWAR: Naeem Iftikhar Dar, a passionate conservationist and in-charge Wildlife & Fisheries Department Azad Jammu and Kashmir looks complacent while sharing a success story of his department in rescuing and protecting two orphaned black bear cubs from poaching and bloody sport of dog fighting.
The bear cubs were found a year ago in Neelum Valley with their eyes closed because of being only a few days old and very weak. The AJK Wildlife Department on receiving reports about unattended cubs, reached the site, rescued and started their brought up in captivity. ....

Islamabad : The experts speaking at an event on Saturday urged the authorities and government institutions to control undue human interventions and constructions in the Margalla Hills National Park to protect the habitats of wildlife.
They said that most of the efforts are focused on hills alone while the Rawal Lake and Shakarparian area are flooded with construction and visitors. We need to control incoming vehicles and visitors and strictly restrict change in the land-use within the MHNP boundaries.
They urged the authorities to work according to their mandate and scope of work without any influence, and discrimination to conserve the natural ecosystems and habitats of the Margalla Hills National Park (MHNP). Peshawar Zoo to receive report on giraffe's death next week

PESHAWAR: The management of the Peshawar Zoo expects to receive next week the report of the samples of the giraffe which had died at the facility recently.
Acting Director of the zoo, Ishtiaq Wazir, said on Friday the zoo management has not yet submitted the autopsy report to the Wildlife Department. He said though the internal report had confirmed that it was an infection that led to the death of the animal, the results of the samples were sent to the laboratories in Peshawar and Islamabad to determine the exact cause of the infection.
The official said the remaining two giraffes were in good health. However, he said the caretakers could not get any clue to their illness from appearance. He said the remaining two giraffes were female and the Zoo management would bring a male for them in the future. ....

Conservationists visit zoo, find conditions mostly satisfactory - Newspaper


It expressed reservation about the size of few enclosures.
A delegation of the Pakistan Wildlife Foundation headed by its vice-chairman, Safwan Shahab Ahmad, and animal rights activists visited the sprawling facility in the provincial capital and looked at animals in enclosures and allied facilities.
They will give final recommendations and scientific input to the management to improve conditions in the zoo.
The wildlife experts and ecologists will be taken on board for finalising recommendations. The Peshawar zoo, which was opened to public in 2018, is in the spotlight due to the animal deaths. Also, a petition about it has been pending with the Peshawar High Court. A group of animal rights activists had filed the petition. ....
