The Reserve Bank of India has cancelled the licence of Bhagyodaya Friends Urban Co-operative Bank Limited, Warud, based in Amravati, Maharashtra. “Consequently, the bank ceases to carry on banking business, with effect from the close of business on April 22, 2021”, reads a RBI release.
The Commissioner for Cooperation and Registrar of Cooperative Societies, Maharashtra has been requested to issue an order for winding up the bank and appoint a liquidator for the bank. The Reserve Bank cancelled the licence of the bank because it did not have adequate capital and earning prospects. ....

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on Thursday cancelled banking licence of Maharashtra-based Bhagyodaya Friends Urban Co-operative Bank Ltd for failing to garner adequate capital and with no prospects of earning for the lender. Almost 98% of the customers and depositors of Bhagyodaya Friends Urban Co-operative Bank are eligible to receive full amount from the Deposit Insurance and Credit Guarantee Corporation (DICGC).

The RBI says continuance of the Warud, in Amravati based bank, is prejudicial to the interests of its depositors and the bank with its present financial position would be unable to pay its present depositors in full. The central bank also added that public interest would be adversely affected if the bank is allowed to carry on its banking business any further. ....

Trouble continues for Bhagyodaya Friends Urban Co-op Bank

Reserve Bank of India has extended the directions on the Bhagyodaya Friends Urban Co-operative Bank for a further period of three months from January 18, 2021 to April 17, 2021, subject to review.
The UCB was first put under direction on January 17, 2019. These directions were modified from time to time, the validity of which was last extended upto January 17, 2021.
The Directions stipulate certain restrictions and / or ceiling on withdrawal / acceptance of deposits. The detailed Directions are displayed on the bank’s premises for interested members of the public to peruse.
Reserve Bank of India may consider modifications of the Directions depending upon the circumstances. The issue of Directions should not per se be construed as cancellation of banking license by the Reserve Bank of India. ....
