The Red Line rail project will commence a soft launch of its services on Aug 2 and will allow commuters free rides for three months, Transport Minister Saksayam Chidchob says.
The launch of the new service was postponed from March.
The Red Line will cover the greater Bangkok area, running from Thammasat University s Rangsit campus to Bang Sue and Taling Chan.
Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha will preside over the service s launch ceremony on Aug 2. ....

The Bangkok Mass Transit System Plc (BTSC) has postponed test-run plans for the Pink and Yellow Line extensions following the temporary closure of construction worker campsites across the city to curb Covid-19 transmissions.
Surapong Laoha-unya, CEO of the BTSC, on Wednesdy said construction work on the Pink Line s Khae Rai-Min Buri section and the Yellow Line s Lat Phrao-Samrong section were 70-80% complete.
Only minor work, such as electrical system installation and fittings, remained unfinished.
Originally, the 30-kilometre Yellow Line was to open by year s end and the 34.5-kilometre Pink Line was expected to be running around March or April next year. ....

The TCC said the extension which will see fares for trips on the Green Line capped at their current ceiling of 65 baht will add to the public s financial woes.
As the owner of the Green Line, BMA is looking to offer the BTSC, the line s current operator, a 30-year extension on its concession to operate the main section of the Green Line, which is due to expire on 2029.
Under its proposal, the BMA will offer the extension in exchange of BTSC shouldering its debts of almost 100 billion baht. ....

Bangkok Mass Transit System Plc (BTSC), as the operator of the BTS skytrain, is seeking to secure an Administrative Court order to get City Hall to pay its overdue debt worth around 30 billion baht, its CEO Surapong Laoha-unya said on Monday.
Mr Surapong said the BTSC had written to the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) and its investment arm, Krungthep Thanakom Co, at the beginning of the year to seek a debt settlement.
In total, BTSC is seeking to recover 9.6 billion baht for operating the Green Line extension for more than three years and 20.7 billion baht for the purchase of train operating systems along the extended route. ....
