More Support For Victoria's Hardworking Midwives

VIC Premier
The Andrews Labor Government will deliver a $13.2 million boost to support Victoria’s hardworking midwives to meet the growing demand for public maternity services.
Minister for Health Martin Foley today announced funding for extra staffing to ensure mothers and their babies can continue to get the very best and safest care during the current surge in births.
This boost will bolster the maternity workforce, with the equivalent of an extra 175 staff funded across the state to help relieve pressure for busy midwives at 38 health services across Victoria.
This package includes funding for increased frontline care on priority shifts such as night duty and to improve rostering across the system. ....

Thousands of women at risk from breast augmentations after rare cancer linked to common implants

An urgent warning has been issued to thousands of Australian women who have had breast implants which have been linked to a rare cancer.
Women who have undergone the procedure are urged to be on the look out for symptoms of breast implant-associated anaplastic large cell lymphoma, a rare  cancer of the immune system that grows in the scar tissue capsule and fluid around the implant.
The cancer has been linked to common textured implants in surgeries going as far back as 2004.
Of the 106 Australian women diagnosed with the disease, four have died, the Herald Sun reported.

Health officials took action in October last year amid concerns that finger pricking devices used to check the levels of glucose in someone s blood had been reused on multiple quarantine guests.
They were used for guests who had diabetes, were pregnant, or generally unwell , officials said.
The blood glucose level monitoring devices should only be used for one person, because they can retain microscopic amounts of blood that could infect another person if there s a bloodborne virus present. ....
